Welterweight legend Jon Fitch battled Brian Foster at the Professional Fighters League’s inaugural event on the infield at historic Daytona International Speedway during Coke Zero 400 Weekend. WSOF’s last Welterweight Champion earned his first finish in 10 years in this action-packed back-and-forth brawl.

Fitch and Foster entered the Decagon with the No. 1 seed on the line for the upcoming Professional Fighters League season and it showed in their performances. The fight was exciting from bell to bell as both men had moments of total control. After landing some strikes to open the contest, Foster attempted to go for a guillotine choke but Fitch escaped. The WSOF welterweight champ took over for the rest of the first round, throwing leather from inside Foster’s guard.

In the second round, Foster landed a huge right hand that had Fitch on wobbly legs. Foster continued to press for the finish and came within moments of finishing the fight. However, Fitch’s toughness would show through as he survived the onslaught and eventually took top position. In one of the strangest finishes in recent MMA history, Fitch would lock in a modified rear naked choke to get the tap out in the second frame. However brief the welterweight clash was, it will go down as one of the most entertaining bouts in the promotion’s history.

The championship rounds saw the two men work to find an opening with the aggression coming from Palmer. However, in the fifth and final round, Harrison cracked the former featherweight champ hard inflicting major bleeding on his forehead. Although the story of the fight was an even contest, Harrison’s power, significant strikes and hard shots ultimately earned him the victory. One of the most anticipated match-ups in the featherweight division ended with the crowning a new champion.
