Being at the top is a familiar position for Smealinho Rama. The Canadian light heavyweight is a former WSOF heavyweight champion and was considered the top 205-pound fighter earlier this year. Now, Rama can add the title of top North American light heavyweight prospect to his list of accolades.
Following FloCombat’s recently released North American prospect list, Rama earned top honors for the light heavyweight division. Rama is a teammate of former WSOF light heavyweight and WSOF middleweight champion, David Branch. He also spends time out in Albuquerque, training with a who’s who of fighters at Jackson’s MMA. The combination of working with two stellar teams have propelled Rama to the top spot in the light heavyweight prospect rankings.
Rama began his professional MMA career in 2012, initially starting out in the heavyweight division. As his level of training intensified, “The Prince” slimmed down enough to drop to the 205-pound division. However, this wasn’t before Rama captured WSOF gold at WSOF14 by defeating Derrick Mehmen in just 51-seconds.
Since dropping to light heavyweight, Rama has gone 1-1 but has flashed moments of brilliance in the cage. Big, athletic and powerful, Rama seemingly has all the tools to become a great fighter in the light heavyweight division.
