Knockouts provide some of the most spectacular moments in MMA. However, all knockouts are not created equally. There’s your standard TKO version with the ref stopping a vicious onslaught. There’s the infamous walk-off KO that Mark Hunt is known for. And then there’s the total faceplant knockout. These tend to be the most vicious and that proved to be the case as Alexandre Cidade took on Joel Tigre this weekend.
The two men squared off in a regional Brazilian promotion in a bout that could’ve flown completely under the radar for MMA fans. Cidade appeared on Season 4 of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” but lost to Nikolas Motta. He also attempted to make his mark by competing in the Akhmat 2016 Grand Prix but lost to Khusein Khaliev. After suffering these setbacks while trying to land a contract outside of his native Brazil, Cidade didn’t want to settle for just another W.
Looking to land a textbook 1-2 combination, Cidade’s right hand landed flush to the chin of Tigre. The end result was violent and quick.
That’s about as devastating as a knockout can get. It’s tough for guys competing in regional promotions (much less in other countries) to get noticed but I don’t think Cidade will have that issue after this thunderous KO.
