Cris Cyborg May Be The Next MMA Superstar Headed To The Boxing Ring

The newly crowned UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg may not stick around to defend her title.

The Brazilian just captured the UFC belt at UFC 214 in July by defeating Tonya Evinger. However, it looks as though Cyborg could be pulling a Conor McGregor and looking to make the jump to professional boxing.

Helwani mentioned the UFC is looking to book Cyborg against former UFC champion Holly Holm. The fight would be a profitable one for all parties involved. Cyborg has looked like an unstoppable force throughout her MMA career and Holm will forever be known as the woman who ended the reign of Ronda Rousey.

The promotion could also give Megan Anderson another shot. She and Cyborg were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 214 but those plans fell apart after Anderson removed herself from the bout.

Of course, none of those plans mean anything if Cyborg is serious about plying her trade in the boxing world. She’s been training with two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields and certainly looked the part of being a professional boxer.

The Brazilian’s tenure with the UFC has been nothing short of tumultuous and it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see her venture to other opportunities outside the Octagon. Cyborg has competed in professional muay Thai bouts before and has accomplished virtually everything she could during her MMA career. She’s won world titles in Strikeforce, Invicta and now the UFC. Could a boxing belt be in her future?
